My name is Vernette Carbon, the owner of e-businessmoms.com, mom of three boys, and married to Arthurly Carbon.  


Being a mom of three young boys can be tedious at times, but I would not have it any other way.  My husband and my children are my life.

St. Vincent, West Indies

I was born in the beautiful Caribbean Island of St. Kitts, and raised in St. Vincent, St. Thomas United States Virgin Islands, and New York.  My dad moved us around quite a bit.  It was one of the best things my dad could have done for my siblings and I because we learned how other people lived and made new friends in different places.

Multi Level Marketing Didn’t work

After I got married in 1996 in New York, I worked for the Federal Government.  Three years later I gave birth to my first son.  I was a proud mom and did not want to leave my son to go back to that job.  There was no way I was going back to Corporate America.


So I gave up a “secured” Federal Government job to seek home based employment. Everyone thought I was simply STUPID!  I had a college degree, had a “great” job and wanted to work from home…wanted to be self employed.  To many, that just did not make sense.  I wanted the freedom that only self employment could give me.  My husband wanted to be self employed too.


My hubby and I tried so many MLM programs prior to me working from home for fortune 500 companies, but nothing worked. We made some money here and there, but it sucked. I hated depending on a lazy MLM downline in order to make a living. My downlines never worked as hard as I did. So MLM just didn’t work.


Back in the year 1991 my hubby and I and my first son moved to Hollywood Florida from New York.  We needed a change.  Living in Florida changed my life as I was fortunate enough to find my first REAL home based contract.  At first I thought it was a scam because I had to pay for training…two courses, and had to purchase a computer because I didn’t have one at that time.

Work From Home As A Customer Service Rep

I went with my gut and took the courses.  I had to drive 45 minutes daily to sit in a classroom with other work at home wannabees like myself.  Today, contractors can train at home via online classrooms, thanks to modern technology.


I worked really hard answering customer service calls routed to my home from Willow CSN.  Willow CSN was the middleman between the 500 companies and the contractors.  They hired people like you and I as customer service reps to process customer service calls for these companies.


I was a contractor for HSN.com, Skymall.com, Tracfone.com, Small Data Processing, and Encore.  Some customers were very difficult to deal with, while others made my days more pleasurable.


I received bi-weekly payments processed by ADP in the mail working for Fortune 500 companies…HSN, Tracfone, and a couple others. Some companies paid a lot more than others.

More About Me…

After a year of working from home for fortune 500 companies back in 2001, we relocated back to New York from Florida because I was homesick for New York.  I didn’t like Florida even after living there for two years.


I was devastated when I found out that I could not work from home as a Customer Service Rep for Willow CSN  in New York because the VOIP (Voice Over Internet Provider) was not available in New York. This meant that they were unable to route customer service call to New York.


This opportunity was only available in Florida and Texas at that time.  So I was back to square one again when we moved to New York. Well, I was determined to find work again, and you better believe it…I did! Well, after “going through a storm.”

Medical Transcription

I then found out that the only other legitimate way to work from home and receive a real paycheck was to become a medical transcriptionist. So I went to school in Queens New York to learn medical transcription. I absolutely hated medical transcription.


The medical terminology that I had to learn was just not working for me…it was as though I was being taught a foreign language. So I quit the class. So there I was again…searching for another legit way to work from home. Frustration!!!

General Transcription

I searched and searched online many hours daily trying to find another way. I then stumbled upon “general transcription.” I was excited because it seemed like something I could actually do, and it was much easier than medical transcription.





Most transcription companies are looking for people who can type at least 60 words per minute…the more the better.  The more wpm you type, the more money you earn.


I was typing 50 wpm at that time and practiced everyday for a couple weeks to increase my typing speed.  I also taught myself general transcription using a really great general transcription e-book like the General Transcription Crash Course. Within a couple weeks I felt ready to start working as a General Transcriptionist.


I then purchased the Start-Stop Universal Transcription System
(see picture at the left) and started looking for jobs…contracts.  BTW, I still have the Start-Stop Transcription System in my basement today after all these years. It is a highly recommended transcription system.


Thousands of people use it for medical, general, and legal transcription.  Some people start their own transcription business or work for transcription companies by searching for jobs on simplyhired.com, indeed.com, etc.


I worked at home transcribing documents for a total of four years…four to five days a week for Net Transcripts, Production Transcripts, Ubiqus and a few other companies.  It was not easy, but I was determined to help my hubby make ends meet and to take care of a newborn and a toddler while transcribing my life away.


I’ve successfully created and sold a work at home directory online, an independent contractor cover letter and resume ebook, and a several other e-products.  I have dabbled in a little bit of everything.

Some things worked and others were a complete failure.  However, I have been able to create multiple streams of income and I show my blog readers how to do the same in the e-BizNews Newsletter.
