There is much to do insofar as optimizing, monetizing, marketing and content creation. Where do you start and where do you focus your efforts especially if you are blogging to make money?

Well obviously you focus your efforts on ways to increase blog traffic to your site which ultimately means catering to your visitors. With the understanding that your readers really do not give a hoot whether you make one red cent most of your efforts will go seemingly unappreciated. Are You Starting A Blog For Money Or For Pleasure?

September 23, 2010 By: vernette Category: Make Blogs

It seems like everyone has a blog these days. Have you ever considered creating one? If you have considered it but you still don’t have one, then what are you waiting for? Blogs are pretty much like an online diary. Many people create blogs for what they truly are…online journals. However, starting a blog for money is why most people these days have one. Blogs have become a source of income for thousands of people online today.

Let us take for instance Dooce.com. This blog started out as a hobby blog. But guess what? This blog is now a million-dollar blog. The owner, Heather Armstrong, never in her wildest dreams thought that her simple blog would be flooded with visitors who were and still are hungry for what she has to offer.

Fundamentals Of Successful Blogging

It is important that you choose the right market and target the right people. Testing is also very important in order to see what works and what does not work on your blog. When creating your blog, choose to market to people who are hungry for information, people who have problems that they need solved as soon as possible.

You might be wondering if starting a blog could bring you some success in a short period of time. Well it can, but it does take a lot of work. You have to keep your readers engaged. You can’t put up a blog, do nothing and expect to have people flooding your blog. You must be consistent in putting content on your blog. Blog readers need fresh content…content updated frequently.

Whether you post on your blog two to three times weekly, or on a daily basis, you must be consistent in doing so. Posting content on your blog everyday for one week and then skipping three weeks would definitely kill your blog’s traffic. I have had this happen to me a few times because of illness. Although my traffic numbers didn’t drop drastically (since Google sends me some of my free traffic), there was still a slight decline in overall traffic. So consistency is important.

Also, content is king as I always say. Google loves fresh content. Google likes to crawl blogs with great content and you can end up with free taffic when google indexes those pages. Also, SEO optimize your content, and your blog is as good as gold. Remember, your content must be valuable. If you think you can put up some old run-of-the-mill contentit would not work. Make sure your content is what people want to read.

A good rule of thumb is, if you write an article on your blog and you don’t even enjoy reading it, no one else will. Stick to that rule and you will pump out winning articles and posts each and every time. Another key point I must add is you must put your personality in your blog. Add a little blurb here and there in your posts about yourself, your experience. This is what sets your blog apart from everyone else’s.

Once you decide to create a blog, remember to choose a topic that will grab the interest of many. Look for that small group of people within a large market and build your blog around that. Instead of putting up a blog on the broad term, “Weight loss,” it would be more beneficial to create one on something like, “How to get rid of love handles, or “How to gain weight.” It’s easy to start a blog and it’s never too late to have one, whether for money or for pleasure. So I will say this once again…what are you waiting for? Grab your free blog today!.
