Blogs Don’t Make Money!

March 24, 2010 By: vernette Category: Make Blogs

There are millions of people online seeking ways to make more money and are buying into the “Get rich quick,” or “Make a quick buck,” online scams. This is an epidemic. I see way too many blogs and products offering “Overnight success,” online.

Most of us know by now that there is no such thing unless you “Buy your income.” However, most people can’t afford to buy their incomes, especially in this economy. And even if you buy your income, you would still need money to do so.

Now there are many people who have been “Beaten badly” by the “Get rich quick online,” syndrome and are really ready to start a serious, long-term business online. Many have asked me about blogging. I want to let you know that blogs don’t make money, but businesses do.   Businesses sell things. A blog is a platform for your business, or I should say, a tool that can help you make money when you sell things on it.

You can make good money with one blog. It requires lots of time and dedication. I personally own several blogs like my “Lip,” blog. I love blogging on different topics… topics that I can identify with.

I’ve been asked several questions about starting a home based baking business, writing article business, horse training, solar panel, etc. A blog would be a great tool to use to create long term success in any one of these businesses. You can blog about cats, organic food, bed wetting, dog training, weight loss, wigs, hair loss, cosmetics, dread locks, etc. The list goes on and on.

As long as you can write about your topic daily or even several times a week, and keep your audience engaged and coming back for more, then you’ve got a winner. You can monetize your blog in so many different ways and make money.

I don’t use all of my blogs to make money. Some blogs are just hobbies. Take Heather Armstrong for instance, her blog started off as a hobby blog and now it’s making her millions. You too can do the same. Children are doing it too.

I just installed a blog for my 10-year-old and we’re getting ready to get the ball rolling on his healthy kid recipes blog. Whether you want to make money, or use it as a hobby, anyone can do it.  So if you’re ready, let me help you get started.

Following are some of the questions that I’m being asked on a weekly basis:

  • How do I create a blog like yours?
  • What WordPress theme are you using?
  • Can you help me select a blog topic?
  • How can I get traffic to my blog?
  • Is there a step-by-step course that I can take on WordPress blogging?
  • How to manage a blog
  • How can I make money with a blog?
  • How can I get started blogging for a living?

If you would love to install a blog and create a business online, but just don’t know where to start, I would love to hear from you.

Is there any questions that you have about starting a business online and using blogs as your platform for doing so?

If so, I would appreciate your feedback here.  This would help me to help you and others who have the same questions, but are afraid to ask.  I am getting ready to offer you a great blogging opportunity and need your feedback on the subject.

Home Baking Business – What Does My Lemon Flaxseed Cake Have To Do With Working From Home

February 17, 2010 By: vernette Category: Recommended Business Opportunities

Home Baking Business On Valentine’s Day, I baked a lemon flaxseed cake for my hubby. It  was “Almost guilt-free,” due to the low-fat ingredients and healthy  addition… Flaxseed. It was absolutely delicious. I’m not saying that  because I made it… well, cut me some slack, I think I deserve a  cookie for that (He he).

Anyway, my family and I enjoyed it a lot.

So what in the world does lemon flaxseed cake have to do with working from home? You might be thinking, “Vernette you are a little off here.” Well, I’m not. I thought I would share this recipe with you and explain why I’m showing off my cake.

Well, there are many people who have a passion for baking and don’t know how to get started in their own home baking business…baking cake, cookies, cupcakes, etc. You see, I can bake well, even without a recipe in hand, but have I ever thought of starting a home baking business venture in the past? Absolutely not. I’m not that great (smile), and furthermore I never had the drive. Before I go further with this articles, check out this video on how to make cupcakes by Caitlin McDermott. See…you can turn a baking passion like Caitlin, and make a boatload of cash in your own home baking business.

Home Baking Business – Cup Cake Cash!

For the moms and dads who can bake exceptionally well, why not consider a home-based baking business? Before you get started think about a niche for your home baking business. What about baking for weddings? Maybe you can cater for birthday parties, banquets, etc.

You can also specialize in baking custom cakes for special occasions, such as customized picture cakes, etc. So many niches to choose from.  Well, if you’ve decided on your niche market and…

Want to own a home baking business, here’s how to get started:

First of all, baking must be your passion in order to become successful in this business. You’re going to be baking your life away (most likely).   Also, in setting up this type of home business, you’ll have to do your homework. You want to make sure that you’re in accordance with all of rules and regulations. When dealing with food, strict rules do apply, especially for home baking businesses.

To get started, I advise you to get in contact with bakers, caterers, other home-based food businesses, personal chefs, etc. I’m sure that you will find lots of these people in your area and they can share with you what they went through to get started and also share any information with you about licensing.

In addition to speaking to other business owners in your area, make sure you call up your town, county and state licensing office. Ask them for all the guidelines that a home  baking business would need to follow. One of the first things that you would need to do is make sure that your kitchen is up to par because it will have to pass an initial health inspection.

If your kitchen passes inspection and you get started, you should have it in mind that you will be visited frequently by health inspectors. These inspectors just want to make sure that you’re still in compliance. If you want to grow your business to make it extremely profitable, you can go on a large scale beyond your local area by selling baked goods to commercial establishments.  You can also sell through the mail, etc.

Maybe you’d like to target busy parents and focus on baking children’s birthday cakes or providing homemade cupcakes or cookies for the birthday child to take to school. You can even cater to the health-conscious, and bake, for example, low calorie brownies with some type of healthy ingredients, Flaxseed bread and any other breads with nutritional ingredients.

You also have to think about how you’ll market your product. Are you interested in selling directly to customers in and around your town, or do you want to supply stores with your finished products?

Would you contract with a caterer to provide desserts for special events, or would you be hired directly by the client to create a show stopping cake? How about setting up a Website or mail order fulfillment service to peddle your wares?

Depending on the volume of bake goods that you would be supplying, it would be wise to find a wholesaler who can provide you with such things as sugar, spices, flower and other ingredients in bulk. This way, you would not have to run to the supermarket often just to replenish your pantry.

So with all of this said, please do your research carefully and make sure that this is what you want to do before you go full force into this. It sounds like a lot of fun, but it’s a lot of work. Make sure that baking is your passion or you will give up sooner than later.
