E-Business Marketing

July 30, 2010 By: Justin Harrison Category: affiliate marketing

Marketing on the internet is an important part of running a business in today’s economy, but many business owners (new and old alike) find it daunting, even overwhelming. Because it’s so different from traditional marketing, many people who are familiar with more traditional methods of marketing find it confusing and complicated despite their experience; for those who don’t have such experience, it can be even worse. One way some businesses solve this problem is to hire a consultant with more knowledge of internet marketing than they have, the same way they might solve any other problem of that nature.

Even the world-famous internet market Stephen Pierce mentioned this fact on the day previous to Ewen Chia’s statement. Affiliate marketing shouldn’t be a “straightjacket” or “ball and chain” system – rather, affiliate marketing should be part of a larger strategy of internet marketing, including pay-per-click ads like Google AdSense and more traditional marketing of products.

There are four essential steps that an internet marketing expert can help a business owner with: preparing plans, providing consulting services, managing specific campaigns, and planning and managing the entire marketing program (this is obviously the most involved and expensive option!). Despite it being the most involved option, having a fully-realized internet marketing plan is a rewarding option that will provide a business with far more information than the others. It can be invaluable in studying the competition and finding a niche to target with a business.

The internet marketing expert should not only identify your target audience, but come up with a plan to appeal to that demographic and steer them to your website. The marketing plan should be specific at setting goals and estimating your budget. If you use an internet marketing expert properly, you should have a plan for marketing your company long-term.

An internet marketing expert can work with you as a teacher, a consultant, or as an individual. Consultants usually help you accomplish a long-range marketing strategy, but they do it in such a way that your company can run it themselves after the plan is set. Working with a consultant is a great way to learn how to do things for yourself. Time can be an issue when looking for a marketing expert.

If a specific aspect of your marketing plan is time-consuming, hiring an expert for that area could be beneficial. Setting up certain aspects of your website (such as pay-per-click) is an example of such a task. This requires a constant monitoring and can need adjusting on a regular basis. Other aspects such as linking campaigns should also be outsourced if you don’t have in-house marketing experts.

A full-service marketing expert can provide a wide variety of services. Some of the tasks you could use are checking out the competition, identifying your demographic, creating an original selling position, and planning your budget. Once the marketing plan has been decided (and approved), the full-service expert will run the campaign for you.

You should consider the benefit of this service before you choose your marketing expert. The main advantages are the access to their expertise and your free time. A minus, of course, is the added expense. Make sure you look at a cost-benefit analysis before you make this decision.
