My Link Cloaking experience…

I remember when I was so frustrated trying to find out how to hide an affiliate link in my browser and just did not know what to search for online.  So it took me a while to find out that most people refer to it as masking or cloaking affiliate links.  It takes a bit more work than knowing how to hide a link with a word.  After doing this about a couple times, it would become a piece of cake. Why cloak affiliate links?

What would be the purpose in cloaking or hiding an affiliate link?
Some reasons:

1. To prevent people from realizing that they are affiliate links.

2. To allow you to change affiliate programs quickly and easily without changing all of your links.

3. To prevent competitors from tracking down that you are an affiliate and copying what you do.

4. To prevent hijacking of affiliate commissions.
