How To Propose Telecommute Employment And Bring The Office Home

August 19, 2010 By: vernette Category: Work From Home Careers

If you’re currently on a 9-5 job that can be converted to a telecommuting position, and you really want to telecommute, talk to the boss and propose telecommute employment. Explain the benefits that telecommuting could bring to the company. I suggest that in addition to an oral presentation you should prepare a written telecommute employment proposal. Make sure it explains in clear details the benefits of you “moving the office home.”

To download telecommuting proposal templates please check out Work Options . I highly recommend the tools on this web site if you really want to work from home, but keep the job that you’re already on. You can purchase a proposal template, add your personal information, and customize it to your needs. That’s how simple it is. See a sample below of a telecommute employment proposal that I wrote. You can use this as a guide to write one in addition to purchasing a template. Every bit of help counts in making this happen.

RE: Telecommute Proposal

I am writing to express my desire to perform my job as Medical Transcriptionist in a telecommuting capacity beginning October 15, 2005. This has been on my mind for the past six months.

Countless hours of my time has been spent on researching the subject, and I am excited about sharing the information I’ve gathered with you.

My job is one that can be performed in a telecommuting capacity because a computer, printer, FTP server, DSL or cable modem is all that I need get my work done. These are things that I already possess in my home office that I am willing to use.

However, I would need another computer for backup, and subscription to the GoToMyPC software so that I can access my work computer from anywhere. I can register for a free trial at http://www.GoToMyPC.com. Another software that I can use is Webex.

I would expect the department to support me in making monthly payments to my cable modem account, and assist me with any technical support issue that may arise. I am a very hard-working employee, and I’ve given this company 110% of myself. I am saying this because I want to let you know that I am confident that I will be more productive working from home than on the job site due to the benefits of telecommuting for companies and employees.

Besides increasing productivity, telecommuting would be a tremendous benefit to this company. Here’s how:

  • It cuts the cost for office space
  • Reduces stress and commuting time that could be used to do more work

  • In case of emergencies I can take care of whatever problem arises and then work later on in the day instead of calling sick like many employees
  • I can still work when harsh weather conditions persist

  • Increased productivity
  • Increased employment of women

  • Increased employed of disabled workers
  • Reduced furniture and equipment costs

I know that this is a new concept, however it has been working for companies like AT&T, Cigna, Office Depot. I can even give you the names and telephone numbers of managers who are enjoying the benefits of letting their employees telecommute. I would like to telecommute two days a week starting October 15, 2005. I can do this for two days a week for a period of at least six months. After six months, once this is working out, I would like to telecommute three days a week, with the possibility of doing this full time after a review of my performance.

I do have dependent care needs that are met by a full time babysitter. I know that you’re probably having concerns about off-site performance. Truly if this is a concern for you I assure that you can even monitor my productivity and performance at home better than workers in the office. You can do this for the first couple of months.

Let me introduce you to Odesk Team. Odesk provides visibility into virtual cubicles of employees and remote workers, including logged activity and analytics. Odesk offers web-based applications that creates a complete view of each person, including a web cam to capture and see what they’re working on. So with the click of a mouse you can see work I’ve done in the past, you can verify logs, review work, view my historical activity, determine hours I’ve worked, and time spent on various activities. For more information on Odesk please visit http://www.odesk.com.

After telecommuting for two months, on December 15, 2005 we can sit down in a meeting to discuss and review my performance. At that time we can determine whether or not I should continue. Enclosed please find several names, telephone numbers, and email addresses of managers and employees that are enjoying the benefits of telecommuting. Also please notice that I’ve also included several articles on the benefits of telecommuting.

I know that this will take some time for you to digest. I am enthusiastically awaiting a response from you. I know that I possess the skills and personality necessary to succeed as a telecommuter, and will prove that to you. Please give me the chance to do so. For more information on telecommuting and at-home worker management please visit www.tjobs.com, www.telecommute-Now.org,http://www.homewiththekids.com/telecommuting.

I am really looking forward to this and believe with all my heart that this will be a tremendous benefit to the company, and all involved. Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Vernette Carbon
