Drink Milk? Why You Should Switch To Almond Milk Instead
Almond Milk?
Drink Milk? Drink Almond milk instead. Almond milk is one of the most nutritious milk substitutes available. Great for your skin, heart, high in protein, and only 90 calories per glass. It does not contain cholesterol or saturated fats. It also contains omega-3 fatty acids. Make sure you look for the NON-GMO verified seal on the box.
Once you start drinking almond milk you will never go back to regular milk. It taste way better than regular milk too. My kids LOVE it. Why am I creating a post on Almond milk? Well, I’ve decided to start sharing information on living a healthy lifestyle…going back to basics in everything my family and I do. Almond Milk is one of the many food and beverage changes I’ve made in my quest to living a healthier lifestyle.
I notice since the downturn in the economy, lots of people are going Green, looking for ways to save money, changing the way they eat, etc. The sad fact is that most of the foods we consume today

Almond Milk Benefits
Eating on the run seems to be a normal part of life for many of us. With a busy lifestyle, it can be very easy to fall short on consuming enough key nutrients that you need everyday for good health. So what is the solution? The solution is to invest in foods that give you the biggest returns. Almonds are great for snacking because they are so versatile and they are easy to put in a bag. Almonds are considered a super food. Super foods are nutrient-dense meaning there is a whole lot of nutrients in a small amount of food. Almonds are high in Magnesium and Vitamin E.
Recent studies indicate that almonds may play a major role in the prevention of certain chronic diseases. Almonds are so high in antioxidants that they are comparable to Broccoli and Green Tea. Antioxidants are really important in the fight against free radicals. Antioxidants have been proven to really reduce chronic diseases such as heart disease and stroke. Almonds are high in fat…good fat that is. Almonds are plant sourced, so it means that there are no trans fat.
It’s great to incorporate almonds in your daily diet. For me, it is much easier to drink a glass of sweetened almond milk or put some in a bowl of cereal than looking for ways to add it to my diet daily. If I don’t have almond milk, then I would eat the raw almonds for a snack. Whenever I eat a few almonds, I notice that they keep me filled for a couple hours. I usually have a few and drink a full glass of water. I love almonds, and once I found out about drinking almond milk and the benefits of it, I jumped on the almond milk bandwagon…the Silk Almond Milk bandwagon. Ha ha.
Following is an article I stumbled upon from the site My Life In A Pyramid. I thought it was a great article and decided to share it here since I am writing about almond and almond milk. This is an awesome idea and I have to try this recipe too. This would be something that my children would love.
After making almond milk at home using my new (awesome) VitaMix blender, I had a lot of leftover almond “pulp”. Almond pulp (or at least that’s what I call it) consists of the solid pieces of pulverized almonds (pictured below) that have been retained from straining the almond milk to make it more silky. The chai-flavored almond milk I made was really tasty, and I was really happy that I could make it from the comfort of my home and with relative ease. But for a few days after making it, I was a little perplexed about how to handle this leftover pulp …

So the almond pulp ended up chillin’ in my fridge for about three days – until it hit me one day to Google a recipe involving almond pulp. I used Foodily to search for a recipe – as I usually do – but found nothing. After a few minutes of scouring the internet, I found this recipe from a raw dessert site and it seemed perfect because it had literally four ingredients (including the almond pulp)! Naturally, I felt better adding more ingredients, but you can feel free to stop at the cinnamon if you don’t have the other ingredients on hand.

Ingredients for Vegan ABC Cookies: Adapted from Raw Dessert (yields about 12 cookies)
2 cups of left over almond pulp from making almond milk
1 ripe banana
1-2 tablespoons of raw honey (depending on how sweet you want it)
1 tablespoon of cinnamon (you could add an extra one if the almond milk you made was not flavored with cinnamon)
1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil
2 tablespoons of unsweetened and unsulphured shredded coconut
Optional: if you want a chai flavor (and you haven’t already included this in making your almond milk), add 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/2 tablespoon garam masala
It literally took me 5 minutes to blend the ingredients (in the VitaMix ) …
