Not if you believe … Not if you believe what they say about completing in 2-4 years. It takes everyone I know AT LEAST 4 years to complete. I finished in just over 4 years. Make sure there’s actually demand for reporters in your area, too, or you’ll be fighting like crazy just to get jobs to make ends meet.
Thanks for your … Thanks for your honest input! It would be terrible to go through all that and still not get a job! I guess the problem is, if they tell you there are positions open, how can you know if there will be anything open four years down the line? Kind of frustrating!
Your best bet is to … Your best bet is to hook up with your local court reporter’s ociation. Networking is ESSENTIAL! True story…I worked for almost 3 months before getting my first paycheck. My first paycheck was just over $200. I cried. Yes, I got HUGE paychecks at times, but sometimes I got tiny ones. It can be hard to balance at times. It’s a very interesting career though.
I finished school … I finished school in 14 months… I was constantly practicing. There are quite a few people from my school who qualify in less than 2 years. South Coast College in Orange, CA – best school in the state if you look at the statistics.
Was it easy for you … Was it easy for you to get a job after you finished school?? I started a few years ago but quit due to personal reasons. I’m still really interested in doing it but I don’t want to go through all of that and not make it. Especially passing the exams, because everyones always saying how hard it is.
I actually just … I actually just took the state test this last weekend. I feel pretty confident about it. I think people’s big problem is dealing with nerves. I think right now in California there aren’t many positions open, especially in Southern California. I’m considering moving up north if there are job openings. I hear right now reporters are being put on waitlists for interviews and such. You should get back in it if you’re still interested!
